Kamehameha Schools Bernice Pauahi Bishop Estate Art In Education Exhibit

Visit the Arts in Education tent and learn why agriculture is an integral part of native Hawaiian art. Take the opportunity to see an exhibit of ceramics and sculpture by three of our invited artists Sean Browne, Kaili Chun, and Kauka H. deSilva. All are graduates of Kamehameha Schools and all have benefited from the legacy of Bernice Pauahi Bishop. Walk through the Ahupua'a 'O Kawailoa display and see what is being grown above Hale'iwa town. See new-born koa trees grown from seeds collected from Opaeula and other plants grown within the ahupua'a. You can learn about how these plants were used in native Hawaiian art, past and present. Enjoy watching demonstrations on kukui, lehua, laua'e and hala lei making. Bring your children to color informational sheets on each plant or take one home for later. There will be plenty of volunteers to answer questions you might have about our educational programs. Then take a free ride on one of the trolleys and see, hear and experience the arts throughout Historic Hale'iwa Town.
