HALE'IWA HARBOR by Mark Brown
2011 Poster
"HALE'IWA HARBOR"
by Mark N. Brown

Mark N. Brown was born and raised in Hawaii and has been painting professionally for 15 years. A majority of his paintings have been done on location, “en plein air,” that is, outdoors at the actual site of the subject matter.

His painting of "Hale'iwa Harbor," (the original painting measures 36" x 48"), which was chosen for the Hale'iwa Arts Festival 2011 poster, was done at the North Shore boat harbor near the festival site.

Mark teaches a weekly plein air painting class with the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College, a class that meets at varied scenic locations around the island.

He also mentors a weekly uninstructed life drawing group at Linekona Art Center. He credits these studies with his interest in capturing the gestures of humans or nature in his paintings. Mark likes to emphasize in his paintings what these subjects are actually in the process of doing, as opposed to what their physical form and that visualization first appears to be.

Mark wishes to credit his parents Nancy & Clifford Miller for their long and loving support for his artistic opportunities.

ON DUTY by Christie Shinn

"ON DUTY"
by Christie Shinn

Christie Shinn is a self-taught artist based in Canada and Hawaii, depending on the season. Her art is displayed in galleries and collections around the world and continues to earn praise from collectors and publications alike. She also has a growing portfolio of corporate clients including recent work for Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and the Quicksilver Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction.

With a clean, bright, and recognizable style, Christie documents day to day life in her neighborhood. Her paintings steer clear of the familiar postcard imagery, and instead feature smaller moments that are telling of a larger experience. Her subjects range from faded concert posters and sticker-heavy trash cans to lesser known landmarks, local groms, and everyone who is unmistakably "North Shore." Christie would like to thank her hanai family for allowing her to call the North Shore home.
