Area Schools' Arts Programs
Receive Hale'iwa Arts Festival Support

In December 2008, the Hale'iwa Arts Festival made grants to nine area schools' arts programs in the total amount of $6,900.

Hale'iwa Elementary, Ho'ala School in Wahiawa, Kahuku Elementary, Kahuku High and Intermediate, Saint Michael's School in Waialua, Sunset Beach Elementary, Sunset Beach Christian School, Waialua High and Intermediate, and Waialua Elementary were this year's recipients.

Since 1999, the Hale'iwa Arts Festival has provided over $30,000 in financial support for area school arts programs. Funding from the Department of Education and private sources has not sufficiently met the needs for the continuation or expansion of arts education in our schools and shows no sign of improvement under currently anticipated budget cuts.

Mahalos from the schools themselves reflect the results: "'s like a shot in the arm," "...a big help...funding has been shrinking," "Your support helped us build a nationally recognized art program," "...grateful for organizations like you who think of our students first," "...strengthens the love and appreciation for the Arts."

Many of the artists who participated in the 2008 festival assisted in these grants by donating art for sale at last summer's event, the proceeds from which went entirely towards this program.

You too can help continue this support to our area schools' arts programs by becoming a sponsor, a member, or by making a contribution. Executive Director Gary Anderson comments, "If arts people don't support arts programs in our schools, who will?"
