About the Hale'iwa Arts Festival

Brief History Mission Statement Our People

Brief History

The concept of a North Shore arts organization lingered in the minds of several local arts advocates and artists for many years. In 1997, a group of interested and dedicated individuals got together, discussed the topic, and decided to organize into a formal entity. An application for Non-Profit Status was submitted in November 1998, with IRS determination approved in November 1999.

Professional, amateur, student artists, and keiki (children) have participated in all Hale'iwa Arts Festival Events since our first annual summer event in 1998. Program offerings have included visual and performing arts, chalk art events, children's petroglyph art displays, and workshops in support of arts education programs in the North Shore community.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Hale'iwa Arts Festival non-profit organization is to promote education and public awareness of arts and culture, with emphasis on participation, for the betterment of the community. Our objectives are to:

  1. Enhance public awareness, education and appreciation of the arts and their impact on society.
       a. Provide a venue for the exhibition of local artists and their work of which the projected annual Hale'iwa Arts Festival will be a primary focus.
       b. Through the projected annual Hale'iwa Arts Festival, provide a venue for the public to participate in, view and experience a broad spectrum of arts.
  2. Promote art education by funding the appearance of established artist as adjunct faculty in schools through grants.
  3. Expose students to career opportunities in the arts.
  4. Respond to requests to facilitate instructional support in the arts for local groups through workshops and demonstrations.
  5. Provide grant opportunities for community-approved projects which facilitate general artistic and visual improvements to physical communities.
